As per the reports from the Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to reignite their interest in Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara. The Finnish midfielder is currently in the final year of his contract, and the Dens manager could look to sell him in January.
Steven Gerrard though might face a battle to land him as the midfielder is also being targetted by Championship outfit Derby County, a team currently managed by Gerrard’s former international team-mate Frank Lampard.
This is not the first time that the Bears have been linked with Kamara. A few months back, reports from the Daily Mail did the round that Rangers (amongst a whole host of clubs) are looking to pull off a deal for this former Arsenal midfielder. The 23-year-old moved to the Scottish Premiership last season and has firmly established himself with Dundee at the moment. However, his side are currently struggling in the league as they sit on the 11th spot of the Premiership table.
The 23-year-old made only one senior team appearance for the north London giants, but it seems like he could be given another opportunity to move to England, this time with Derby County. It remains to be seen though which club the midfielder chooses if he has offers from both Derby and Rangers. The Rams are currently in a decent position to qualify for the playoff spot so the prospect of playing in the Premier League might attract the Finnish midfielder.
A few months back if someone had asked us if Rangers needs him, we would have gone on to say that the Gers are way too loaded in midfield to go for someone like Kamara. But now maybe Steven Gerrard can do with a player like him in his ranks. Ovie Ejaria has returned to Liverpool after he failed to adjust to life in Glasgow. Lassana Coulibaly has been a shadow of a player compared to his first month, and he too is struggling to find any kind of form.
However, the Finnish midfielder is in the same mould as other midfielders the Gers currently have at their disposal. Kamara predominantly is a defensive midfielder and is industrious in nature. He can pick out a pass or two, but the Bears should probably go for a creative midfielder in January. If Gerrard wants to bring in a player who would impact significantly in January, then they should look at someone else with a more natural flair to his game.
However, we are not particularly against signing Kamara especially when someone like Coulibaly is just on a loan deal. The Gers can go after him, but hopefully, they would also add another midfielder who is more attacking in nature.
