It was a night of disappointment for Everton in their own backyard as a series of errors saw them go down to Tottenham Hotspur by 2-6. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were rampant on the night and showed why they are considered one of the best sides in Europe in the current scenario.
It was a lucky break for Everton which helped former Gunner Theo Walcott open the scoring against the north London side. But very soon Spurs made a comeback and scored three before the halftime whistle. Heung Min Son took advantage of a horrible mix-up between Kurt Zouma and Jordan Pickford and brought his side level with a fine finish while Dele Alli scored the second for his side. Harry Kane got into the act as well and scored the third goal of the match to make it 3-1 at halftime.
It was a painful story for the Merseyside club as they conceded three more goals in the second half and lost the match by an embarrassing margin. Son notched his second of the game as did Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen joined the party with a goal to seal the win for the north London club.
Here is how the Everton players were rated from their embarrassing defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Jordan Pickford: 2
Made a number of mistakes throughout the match which could have been easily avoided. The first and second goal were both due to his errors, and maybe it is time for Silva to give Stekelenburg a go.
Seamus Coleman: 5
Tried his level best to get the ball forward as much as possible but it was a poor defensive show from him.
Kurt Zouma: 4
Had a nightmare of a mixup with Jordan Pickford that led to the first goal. Was ineffective on the day.
Michael Keane: 4
He looked like a novice in front of the attacking prowess of Kane, Alli and Son throughout the match. Was as disappointing as his partner Zouma.
Lucas Digne: 6
Kept his darting runs coming that initiated the first goal of the match. Defensively, however, he looked shaky on the night.
Tom Davies: 4
It was evident from his performance why Idrissa Gana Gueye is irreplaceable for the Toffees.
Andre Gomes: 5
The lack of a partner in midfield prevented him from bringing the best out of himself.
Richarlison: 5
Was a disappointing night for the wide left attacker as his lethal deliveries and darting runs were missing. Was substituted later on.
Theo Walcott: 6
Could have easily had a five as well but his well-timed finish gets him one point more.
Gylfi Sigurdsson: 6
Looked to keep the pressure on the Spurs defence but was let down by his teammates. Got a goal for his side in the second half but it proved futile in the end.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 5
Looked positive in the first half and provided the assist for Walcott to open the scoring. Went missing in the second half and saw very little of the ball.
Substitutes
Morgan Schneiderlin: 4
Could not make any impact and watched his side go down.
Bernard: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
Cenk Tosun: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
