According to a recent report by Manchester Evening News, the odds of Manchester United signing Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has been slashed recently. According to the latest odds released by Ladbrokes, the Red Devils have been priced at 2/1 to seal a move for the Senegalese defender. There were earlier reports which revealed that the Naples-based club are looking for a fee in the region of £90m if they are to part ways with their prized asset.
The 27-year-old has been in majestic form for Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season and has already put in some solid performances at the back, most notably against Liverpool at home in the UEFA Champions League. He is arguably one of the best defenders in European football so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Mancunian giants are looking to snap him up next summer.
Koulibaly has featured in 24 matches for the Italian heavyweights this term and has two assists to his name in multiple competitions. The former FC Metz defensive ace has also earned 31 international caps for the Senegalese national team and played a significant part in their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign earlier this year.
The Senegalese centre-back is known for his pace and power in defence and can make timely interceptions when the pressure is on his shoulders to deliver in a high stakes situation. He is also aerially dominant and can be a threat at both ends of the pitch.
The potential addition of someone of Koulibaly’s quality will be a major coup for the Manchester outfit which could help them compete for silverware in the coming years. He will be a significant upgrade over Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s current options at Old Trafford which include the likes of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Marcos Rojo.
Even if the Reds of Manchester have to pay over the odds to land Koulibaly for a massive fee of £90m, they should consider making such a move as he is a world-class central defender who could change the club’s fortunes for the better and help them improve in the long-run.
