According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is still undecided on his future at Naples and claims that he is not sure whether he will sign a new contract with the Serie A outfit amidst interest from Liverpool. The Polish midfielder’s current deal with Napoli runs out in the summer of 2021, so the Italian giants are trying to make him commit his long-term future to the club.
The same report also revealed that Zielinski’s agent was recently spotted at Anfield when the Reds narrowly beat Napoli with a 1-0 scoreline in the UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday night. In a recent interview with gonfialarete.com, the Polish prospect shed some light on his future and said, “My agent sitting next to the Liverpool officials? I do not know what they talked about, I do not think of my possible transfer that could have happened a few seasons ago.
“I’m fine in Naples, I do not know if I will renew the contract.”
The Polish international’s recent words indicate that he is hesitant about committing his long-term future to Napoli which could be a perfect opportunity for Liverpool. The Reds should capitalise on the situation by providing him with an escape route to Anfield in the coming months.
Since joining the Naples based team from Udinese back in 2016, Zielinski has registered 16 goals while creating ten assists in 115 appearances which has made him a fan favourite at the Stadio San Paolo. He has also earned 41 international caps for the Polish national side and has six goals to his name while representing his nation.
Zielinski is very quick and agile in 1v1 situations. He can also dribble with the ball without giving away possession and can also create opportunities for his teammates in the final third. The Polish sensation doesn’t have the most prolific record as a midfielder, but he is quite versatile and can play in multiple positions across the midfield. The 24-year-old primarily operates as a box to box central midfielder but is also quite capable when unleashed down the left flank.
The addition of Zielinski will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options at Anfield. With James Milner set to embark upon the twilight years of his career, it would be wise for the Merseyside outfit to bring in a player who can be a long-term replacement for the Englishman. Hence, Klopp should do everything in his power to bring the Polish international to Merseyside as he will add more depth to the Liverpool squad and be a long-term asset.
