According to a recent report by Sport Bild, Manchester United are lining up a move to secure the services of Douglas Costa from Juventus when the transfer reopens at the start of next month. The same report has also stated that the Brazilian sensation could be allowed to leave the Juventus Stadium in January if an offer in the region of €40m (£36.12m) comes in for the player.
Costa has been a sporadic feature in Massimiliano Allegri’s first-team this season after he failed to hit top form in the Serie A so far. The Brazilian has been far too inconsistent with his performances which is why he is not a significant part of the Juventus squad anymore. Hence, he could be sold in January if the right offer comes in which could help the player get his career back on track as well.
The former Bayern Munich talent needs to switch clubs if he wants to reignite his career in Europe. Solskjaer could benefit from a player of Costa’s calibre in his squad going into the second half of this campaign.
Man United have had a disappointing campaign so far and is currently occupying the 6th spot of the Premier League table, a massive 19 points off the league leaders, Liverpool. Solskjaer needs to bring in a few players in January to freshen things up at Old Trafford.
The potential signing of Costa will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s midfield options at the red half of Manchester. United have a wide range of talented wingers in their squad such as Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata who are all competing for a starting berth in Solskjaer’s senior team. The acquisition of someone of Costa’s talents will definitely strengthen the Red Devils midfield and add more competition for places within the Man United squad.
At 28, the Brazilian sensation is currently playing at his best which the Manchester outfit could look to utilise in the years to come. He will be a fantastic fit for Solskjaer at Old Trafford and could be a shrewd winter acquisition if the Reds of Manchester can push a deal through for him next month.
