According to a recent report by the Telegraph, Manchester United are not willing to sell Paul Pogba during the January transfer window or next summer as executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward believes that he will have an integral part to play for the Red Devils both on and off the field in the coming years.
With Jose Mourinho’s recent departure from Old Trafford, the French international’s situation at the club has changed for the better under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the new United interim boss. He put in an exceptional performance against Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day when he scored two fantastic goals in the second half to hand his team a dominant 3-1 win on the day.
It seems like he is slowly returning to form in a Man United shirt and could be a huge asset for them over the coming months as they look to make a late push for a top 4 spot in the Premier League. It is quite likely that United will fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League which could make it tough for the Mancunian giants to recruit the top-class players in the next few transfer windows.
Hence, it makes a lot of sense to retain a player of Pogba’s quality for the long-run. On his day, the French midfield ace can be a world-class player in his position but the lack of consistency under Mourinho earlier this season had thrown his future at Old Trafford in doubt. Solskjær’s arrival has addressed that situation for the time being, so things are looking up for the loyal Man United faithful.
The 25-year-old has the ability to score and create goals by himself and oozes class when operating with freedom in the attacking end of the pitch. He has made 22 appearances for the Reds of Manchester this term, scoring seven goals while grabbing six assists in all competitions. His record this season, is by no means, poor yet he has often come under criticism due to his ‘careless’ style of play.
It could be a wise move for Solskjær’s side if they manage to keep him at the Theatre of Dreams for the next few years as the club could then concentrate on building a team around him. Moreover, United is far better equipped to compete for major trophies with Pogba in their side which is why Ed Woodward should decline any offers that come in for the player next month.
