According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in securing the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach winger Thorgan Hazard. However, according to Calciomercato, the Reds could face stiff competition from AS Roma and Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the £31m-rated Bundesliga talent’s signature.
The Belgian’s current contract with the German outfit runs out in the summer of 2020, but he doesn’t intend to extend his stay at Borussia-Park. Hazard has enjoyed a brilliant run of form this season and has already lit up the Bundesliga with some majestic performances so far. The Belgian talent has played 19 matches for the German side this term, scoring 12 goals while creating seven assists in all competitions.
Hazard started off his football career playing for the Belgian club, Tubize Jugend before going on to spend most of his youth career with RC Lens in France. Chelsea decided to give him a chance in the summer of 2012, but unlike his brother Eden, Thorgan was not able to prove his value at Stamford Bridge.
He had loan spells with Zulte Waregem in Belgium and Borussia Monchengladbach to try and reignite his career in West London. However, after some impressive displays during his loan spell at Borussia-Park, the Bundesliga team decided to sign him on a permanent basis back in 2015.
Hazard has incredible pace in his locker and can dribble with the ball down the wide areas to cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders in the attacking end of the pitch. The Belgian sensation also has a knack for scoring and setting up goals on a regular basis in Germany. Hence, he should focus on keeping up the same level of performance if he wants to prove his worth in English football.
At 25, the Bundesliga talent is currently playing at his peak level which Liverpool could benefit from in the next few years. The addition of Hazard will undoubtedly add more competition for places within Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
It could turn out to be a shrewd move for the Reds if they can convince the Belgian forward to make a switch to Merseyside as he has shown enough quality on the pitch to justify a move to an elite club like Liverpool.
