Rangers travelled to Easter Road to take on Hibernian who were coming on the back of a 2-0 win against Celtic. However, the Gers were clearly the better team on the night, but they only got one point to show for their efforts as Neil Lennon’s men held them to a 0-0 draw.
The game was being played in midfield for the first half hour of the first half but the last 15 minutes saw some excellent goalmouth action. Alfredo Morelos twice had the chance to beat substitute goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, but the Liverpool loanee denied him. Hibs had the higher amount of possession, but Rangers always looked a significant threat on the counter-attack and with some smart finishing, they could have gone in with a lead at halftime.
The second half was more end to end, and the away side continued to create chances. Rangers were also unlucky to not get a penalty when it was a clear handball inside the box.
Here is how the players fared in the frustrating draw.
Allan McGregor 6
Didn’t have much to do. A comfortable night in goal for the veteran.
Borna Barisic 7
His forward runs and crossing was a major threat to the opposition defence.
Gareth McAuley 6.5
The veteran did an excellent job at the back and was strong in the air. Came off early.
Connor Goldson 6
Had some nervy moments here and there at the back but overall stood strong and made some smart interceptions.
James Tavernier 5.5
Always looked to push forward and got into some good goal scoring positions. Guilty of missing a simple chance from inside the box when he mistimed his kick completely.
Ryan Jack 8
Once again the best man in midfield for the Bears. Shielded the back four well and made some crucial tackles and interceptions. Along with that, supported well up the pitch with his link-up play.
Lassana Coulibaly 5.5
Played in an advanced role for most portions of the game. Improved slightly from his previous outings but still needs to do better. Lacked composure in the final third.
Scott Arfield 6.5
Was substituted at halftime with an injury. Linked up play well for the first 45 minutes and worked hard.
Eros Grezda 6
His pressing on the left flank allowed Rangers to win balls in dangerous areas. Can improve on his decision making in the final third.
Daniel Candeias 6.5
Had a decent game overall and created some good opportunities. Can still provide more quality in the final third.
Alfredo Morelos 5.5
Always looked a handful and was in the thick of things. Got two clear-cut opportunities in the first half but failed to beat the goalkeeper. In the second half too, he created some chances out of nothing, but his finishing was off on the night.
Substitutes
Ross McCrorie 6
Nicked some balls well after coming on in the second half. Assured performance from the defensive midfielder.
Joe Worrall 5
McAuley was substituted early, and Worrall almost made a hash of things as soon as he came on as Hibs got close to scoring. Improved as the game went on but sometimes looked like a calamity waiting to happen at the back.
Glenn Middleton N/A
Wasn’t involved much.
