Rangers’ European adventure came to an end in an anti-climatic way as they succumbed tamely to Rapid Wien in their final group encounter in the Europa League. Steven Gerrard cannot let that loss affect him as they have to make up some ground if they want to challenge Celtic for the domestic title. They take on Hamilton at Ibrox this weekend, and the fans would be expecting a significant response from the side after the midweek disappointment.
Dundee last weekend showed that this Rangers side could be handled if one frustrates them and Hamilton would be looking to do the same. However, the Light Blues should go in as absolute favourites given that they are back at home after a tough week on the road.
Team News
Ryan Kent is out with hamstring injury. Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans are the long-term absentees. Ovie Ejaria’s future at Rangers is a doubt, and it is likely that he won’t feature in the squad. Alfredo Morelos is suspended for this tie for the straight red he earned against Aberdeen.
Rangers predicted lineup vs Hamilton
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Allan McGregor is set to start in goal once again. Gareth McAuley could miss out this tie as playing two back to back games could be a bit too much for the 39-year-old defender. So we expect Gerrard to go in with the defensive pair of Connor Goldson and Joe Worrall for this game. Borna Barisic looked good while going forward and he is set to keep his place in the left back spot. James Tavernier is going to reprise his usual right-back role.
Midfield
Ryan Jack has been one of the best players for the Gers in the past few games, and he should start in midfield. We would like to see Andy Halliday getting a go in the first team as a midfielder, and he should get the nod ahead of Lassana Coulibaly and Ross McCrorie.
Eros Grezda can start this game as he would be relatively fresh having played very little part in the Europa League encounter. Scott Arfield should start in the attacking midfield role. Daniel Candeias was a significant miss in the game against Rapid Wien, but Gerrard would be glad that he is available for selection for this tie. He should slot in on the right flank.
Attack
In the absence of Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty is going to lead the line for the Bears. He might not be as dynamic as Morelos, but he can still be a potent striker if he is provided with the services.
