Aberdeen continued to remain a thorn in Rangers’ path as they inflicted yet another narrow 1-0 defeat on Gerrard’s men, this time at the Ibrox. The Gers would have been looking for revenge after the League cup semi-final defeat at the hands of the same opponents, but at the end it was not to be. However, Steven Gerrard cannot reflect much on the loss, and he needs to pick his men up as they travel to Dens Park to take on league strugglers Dundee.
Dundee though would be going in this tie on a high as they secured a 4-0 win over Hamilton, just their second win of the season. However, their task would be cut out when Steven Gerrard’s men take them on.
Team News
Alfredo Morelos is suspended as he got a red card against the Dons. Scott Arfield is also going to miss out due to suspension. Borna Barisic is back in training but is yet to feature in the matchday squad. Maybe this could be the game where he gets a start.
Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans continue to be long-term absentees. Ryan Kent is also unlikely to feature because of his hamstring issue.
Rangers Predicted Lineup Vs Dundee
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor continues to be the undisputed no. 1 in goal for the Bears. Gerrard has often rotated the centre-back pairing, but we feel he might stick with Gareth McAuley and Connor Goldson for this tie given the upcoming tough fixture in the Europa League. Andy Halliday should start ahead of Jon Flanagan in the left back role. James Tavernier should continue as the right back, and he is going to have the onus of going forward at every opportunity.
Midfield
Ryan Jack is the best possible bet for Gerrard to start in the defensive midfield role. Ross McCrorie should be given a go in this fixture to provide other midfielders with a breather. Lassana Coulibaly has put in some indifferent performance recently, and he should look to get back to his best against the league strugglers. He should complete the midfield three.
Attack
Eros Grezda should get the nod ahead of Glenn Middleton who started the last game. The Albanian should start down the left side. Daniel Candeias should keep his place on the right flank, and the Portuguese has been getting on the scoresheet of late.
With a volatile character like Alfredo Morelos playing, a red card is never too far away, and Kyle Lafferty should fill in for the suspended Colombian. The Northern Irish forward will be more of an aerial threat in this game.
