Everton have started their season on a decent note in the Premier League under the tutelage of Marco Silva. They would be looking to finish the season strongly with a place in the top six in the league table, but it seems they might just get deviated from their target due to the lack of a quality finisher up front.
Marco Silva should definitely be feeling frustrated with this lack of composure from his players up front, and he should try to rectify the situation by bringing in some new faces to add to his squad in the January transfer window. According to reports published in The Mirror (16/12/2018, page 65), the Toffees are keeping a close eye on the Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic and might look to land him.
Fulham have been in absolute dire straits this season and are currently placed at the bottom of the league table with just two wins out of their 17 matches so far. However, Mitrovic, whom the Lilywhites had signed from Newcastle United on a permanent basis at the start of the season for £20m, has been in good form and has already notched up seven goals this term.
Reportedly, the player has not been able to settle down at Craven Cottage since the departure of their former manager Slavisa Jokanovic, who was sacked after only 12 matches as the manager of the Premier League side. Speculations are rife that under the new manager Claudio Ranieri, he has not been able to find the same amount of inspiration that he got from his former manager and might to look to leave Craven Cottage.
Everton should take advantage of this situation and get the Serbian international to Goodison Park in January. With players like Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin not being able to make it into the starting eleven given their frustrating performances, Mitrovic can be the right player to fit into Silva’s squad, providing the Merseyside club with the firepower essential for them to pursue their European dream.
Let us be honest here! Richarlison might be scoring goals despite starting in a makeshift forward’s position, but that is far from ideal from Everton’s perspective. The Brazilian is the most effective when he is playing down the wings and getting a deal for Mitrovic would allow him to get back to his natural position. That could only be a win for the Toffees in the longer run.
