Everton were unable to reclaim the sixth place in the Premier League table after they played out a disappointing draw against Watford in their last match. The Toffees threw away the lead they had taken over the Hornets in the first half and conceded two goals in the second half before Lucas Digne scored with a brilliant free kick to share the spoils with the visitors.
The match once again showed that the incompetence of the forwards can lead to bigger problems for the Merseyside club with the business end of the season still to come. However, it seems that the Toffees boss Marco Silva is determined to beef up his attack as he looks to add more firepower to his side and has his eyes on the Bundesliga sensation, Jean-Kevin Augustin.
The 21-year-old striker is currently plying his trade for RB Leipzig and is in good form. He has already scored eight goals this season so far along with two assists to his name as well and has earned rave reviews for his impressive display.
According to France Football, his attacking skills have attracted Everton, and they are looking to bring the Frenchman to Goodison Park in a €40 million deal.
Everton had already brought in a number of players in the summer to strengthen their lineup. However, their forwards have been off-colour since the start of the season. The only exception being Richarlison, who notched up his eighth goal of the season with a brilliant strike against his former side Watford. Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert Lewin have all failed to impress with their skills, and there is need of a top quality goalscorer in the side.
The inclusion of a player like Augustin would help the Toffees beef up their attack, which they need to challenge for a place in Europe. The report also says that RB Leipzig are interested in the young Everton ace Ademola Lookman and a swap deal might be on the cards to help the Toffees land the young French striker.
Everton have looked like a formidable side on occasions this season, and they are striving hard to qualify for the European competitions for the next term. The addition of a player like Augustin will sharpen the attacking edge and help them in the pursuit of the Europen dream. So it will be a wise decision for the Merseyside club to splash the cash and land the player.
