According to this slightly old report from The Mirror, Everton are looking to make a move for Arsenal midfield ace Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman is not willing to extend his stay at the North London club with his contract expiring by the end of this season, and according to this report, the Toffees are ready to capitalise on that.
Everton are already performing decently in the Premier League this term, especially in the midfield and defensive departments. The duo of Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Gomes have struck the perfect partnership in the middle of the pitch and made it possible for the side to get the upper hand over their opponents on a number of occasions. However, it seems Marco Silva is ready to invest in the same area once again and add more steel to his squad.
Aaron Ramsey has been one of the mainstays in the midfield for the Gunners since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium in 2008 from Cardiff City. Since then he has made a significant contribution to the North London side over time.
Ramsey has been involved in 382 matches for Arsenal so far in his career and has scored 63 goals. He has also assisted his teammates 66 times and has created a name for himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. His cameo against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur just illustrates what a brilliant player he is when on song.
However, this season, it has not been a pleasant ride for the 27-year-old Welshman as Unai Emery has opted to use him as a substitute on most occasions in the Premier League so far. Besides, the complications surrounding the contract situation at the North London club has also made the atmosphere unfavourable for him to continue and we might see him join another club at the end of this season.
The addition of a player like Ramsey would be a big boost for Marco Silva’s side and will provide the much-needed experience to their squad in the middle of the pitch. Alongside the likes of Gueye and Gomes, Ramsey can build a formidable midfield trio and will help Silva change his usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a more attacking 4-3-3, which would help them put more pressure on the opposition.
However, the departure of the 27-year-old midfielder from the Emirates Stadium is obviously not confirmed, and the Toffees are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation. Nevertheless, in case the move happens, it would be a profitable one for the Merseyside club. This would help Silva in building a squad capable of pursuing their dream of playing in the European competitions.
Realistically, it seems tough for Everton to seal a deal for Ramsey as a player of his calibre would probably get offers from top clubs all over the world.
