Manchester United dished out another clinical performance in the Premier League, this time against Brighton and Hove Albion, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer notched up his first win at Old Trafford after taking over the reins from Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils looked confident from the word go against their opponents and clinched a 3-1 victory, with Nemanja Matic scoring the first goal of the match. However, Paul Pogba was the star of the show as he notched up two goals in the second half and sealed the win for the Red Devils.
Brighton scored a very late goal through Zanka, but it was too little too late for them.
Here is how the Manchester United players were rated from their win against Brighton and Hove Albion.
David De Gea: 7
A decent outing for the Manchester United custodian as he made sure his side left with all three points. Stopped a sure shot goal from Laurent Depoitre but could do nothing to stop Zanka from spoiling his clean sheet on the night.
Diogo Dalot: 6
Made some good runs down the right flank and was very agile throughout the match.
Victor Lindelof: 7
Brilliant composure in the heart of the backline as he made a number of excellent interceptions and blocks to get his side to safety.
Phil Jones: 6
Partnered Lindelof well in the backline.
Luke Shaw: 6
Looked sharp from the word go. Made some darting runs that ended in disappointment.
Nemanja Matic: 7
Brilliant in the midfield as he made a number of tackles and accurate passes. Opened the scoring with a perfectly timed goal.
Fred: 6
Played the perfect second fiddle to Matic in the midfield. Lacked a bit of composure in the second half though.
Paul Pogba: 8
A gem of a performance from the French superstar. Fought valiantly for the ball in the midfield and kept the lion’s share of the possession. Scored a couple of scintillating goals in the second half to see his side get over the line against the Seagulls.
Juan Mata: 7
Efficient as ever. Made a number of intelligent runs into the danger area and kept deceiving the opposition throughout the match.
Jesse Lingard: 6
Looked swift on the run in the first half but was far from threatening the opposition with Zanka keeping a constant watch on him. Set Pogba up for his second goal with a good lay-off.
Marcus Rashford: 6
Made a few decent runs into the danger area but was not able to get any goals to show for his efforts.
Substitutes
Ashley Young: 6
Did well in the midfield and made a few good passes.
Ander Herrera: 7
His sublime footwork was good enough to deceive the opposition on a number of occasions. Set up Paul Pogba for his first goal of the match.
Angel Gomes: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
