According to the latest reports from the Mirror as cited by Daily Record, Celtic are interested in Spanish striker Fran Sol who has been in devastating form in the Eredivisie for Willem II. The 26-year-old has managed 15 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions, and along with the Hoops, their Old Firm rivals Rangers are also interested in him. The reports add that both the sides recently sent scouts to watch him in action.
The Spaniard has been thriving in the Dutch league ever since he joined his current outfit in 2016. The striker had come up from Real Madrid’s academy and graduated up until their C squad before he was released from the club. He had a spell with Villarreal but he never really managed to establish himself in the Spanish division. However, he has put himself back on the map after his two fruitful years in the Dutch division and now even clubs from the Premier League are also reportedly interested in him.
Celtic have had an indifferent season so far this campaign as every time they look to kick forward and open up a bit of lead on the table, they have succumbed to a defeat or dropped points. This has kept their other rivals (especially Rangers) interested in the title race.
The club took some massive blows in the summer transfer window as well as they lost their talismanic forward Moussa Dembele on the final day of the transfer period. This left them short in terms of options in the attacking department.
Recently Leigh Griffiths pulled out from the squad for some time because of his personal issues and currently, Rodgers is down to just one out and out striker in the form of Odsonne Edouard. The Bhoys have also managed to progress in the knock out stages of the Europa League so depth is something which the manager would definitely need as the season goes by and Sol could be the one who provides that.
Sol’s instinct for goals and rich vein of form makes him a good target, but it remains to be seen whether he would be able to cope up with the physicality of the Scottish Premiership. The 26-year-old is currently at the peak of his career and would be looking for a bigger break away from the Netherlands.
With some top-flight English clubs also interested in his signature, Celtic can have their task cut out if they want to lure him to Celtic Park. However, he is likely to get more first-team opportunities at Glasgow given the fact that Celtic are so thin in terms of attacking depth.
