According to a recent report by Football Italia, Arsenal had sent scouts to catch Cengiz Under in action for AS Roma against Inter Milan, but it could take a fee in the region of €50m to prise him away from the Stadio Olimpico. The Turkish winger scored the equaliser with a beautiful strike from long range during that game against Inter which will live long in the memories of the Roma supporters.
Under’s Fantastic Form During Roma’s Difficult Campaign So Far
The 21-year-old has already made some telling contributions for his team during this season, but his strike on Sunday was arguably his most important performance yet as Roma went on to claim a hard-fought point from that encounter. However, with the Italian giants currently languishing in the 7th spot of the Serie A standings, there is a realistic possibility that they could miss out on UEFA Champions League football in the following campaign which could be detrimental to Eusebio Di Francesco’s hopes of keeping hold of his star players.
Under’s current contract with Roma is set to expire in the summer of 2022, so the Italian outfit will be under no pressure to sell. The Turkish prospect has featured in 17 matches for Roma this season, scoring four goals while creating five assists in all competitions.
He has also represented his nation at various youth levels and is currently an integral part of the Turkish national team. At the tender age of 21, Under has managed to earn 17 international caps and has four goals to his name while representing his country.
What Will The Turkish Sensation Add To Emery’s Side?
The Roma wonderkid is blessed with blistering pace and is an outstanding dribbler with the ball at his feet. He has a knack for scoring himself or setting up goals for others around him that makes him such a key member of Di Francesco’s team. However, the Turkish prospect needs to be more consistent with his end-product inside the opposition penalty area, but that is something which he can improve on in the coming months.
Will He Be The Right Fit For The North London Giants?
Under is highly versatile and can play anywhere across the frontline. Moreover, he is a natural winger which makes him a perfect fit for the Gunners as Emery does not have too many wide men at his disposal right now.
The addition of Under will undoubtedly bolster Arsenal’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium and would also add more competition for places within Emery’s squad. Hence, the Gunners should go all out to secure his services in the near future.
