Rangers have done well to compete with Celtic so far this season and the Hoops currently lead by just one point having played a game less. The Gers might have made significant strides in the summer transfer window, but they need to show ambition again in the upcoming January transfer period. One of the areas they need to strengthen is in the striker’s position as this current side depends heavily on Alfredo Morelos to come up with the goods up front.
Kyle Lafferty has been a decent backup option but it’s clear that Steven Gerrard needs to add another striker after Umar Sadiq was sent home early from his loan spell. Here are three forwards the Bears can target in January.
Dominic Solanke
The name which has been on everyone’s lips so far has been that of Dominic Solanke. The Liverpool forward hasn’t made a single appearance for the Merseyside club this season, and a loan move in January looks imminent. Rangers have long been interested (The Scotsman) in him, and various reports (Daily Star) are doing the round that the Gerrard would try to land the English striker in January. However, he is set to face stiff competition (Sky Sports) from the likes of Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town.
Solanke can be a major addition to the Gers squad, and he can really propel them towards a title push if Gerrard gets his man. At just 21, he has even made a senior appearance for the Three Lions. The striker has everything in his arsenal which an out and out no. 9 needs and he can be a major hit in the Scottish Premiership.
Bojan Krkic
The Barcelona academy product might not have lived to the name of being the next Messi, but he has immense potential in him. The Spaniard is currently plying his trade with Stoke City and has shown the world that he can still produce a moment of magic. He admitted that he had been weighed down by the level of expectations, but given his talent, he can still go on to be a game changer.
The Gers have often lacked the creative spark in the attacking third and Bojan can play anywhere in the final third or as a forward as well. He can combine well with someone like Kyle Lafferty or Alfredo Moreos, and his signing would bring in a lot of excitement at Ibrox.
Sardar Azmoun
Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun can be a real handful up front, and his natural goalscoring instincts can make him a major hit at Ibrox. He is still just 23 and currently plies his trade for Russian Outfit Rubin Kazan. The forward has managed four goals and four assists so far this season in 14 appearances in the Russian Premier Liga.
