West Ham United are looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season, and they have done well to not lose any of their last three matches in the Premier League. However, there is a long way to go for the Hammers and their manager Manuel Pellegrini might need to add a few more players to his side to make his team perform better.
The East London club has reportedly been linked with a move for the Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who has been given the green signal by the club to leave after the end of the season. The player has only made six appearances this season so far with the current Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri using David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger as his preferred defensive pair at the heart of the backline.
With Chelsea willing to let their defensive ace leave at the end of this season, a number of clubs from the Premier League and Championship are reportedly looking to add him to their squad. Apart from West Ham United, Manchester United, Southampton, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday are all interested in signing the 32-year-old defender.
Manuel Pellegrini already has the likes of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena in his lineup, who have been performing well this season so far. In fact, in the last few games, the duo have made some significant contribution to the side with their defensive skills. However, it would not be a bad option to have an experienced player like Cahill at Pellegrini’s disposal, and the former Man City manager can surely make a move for the former England international in the next summer transfer window.
Apart from experience, the Blues defender is also known for his leadership skills, which can come in handy for the Hammers. However, a long-term contract might not be on West Ham United’s mind, with Cahill already in the twilight of his career.
West Ham United are looking to improve their performance, and the inclusion of a player like Gary Cahill would be a perfect move for Pellegrini. Also, getting the England international and former Premier League winner on a free transfer will be an added advantage for the Chilean mastermind, and he should make a move for him next summer.
