According to recent reports, West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic is prepared to make a move away from East London so that he can play UEFA Champions League football next season. It is understood that the Austrian international’s desire to leave the Hammers has put both Manchester United and Chelsea on high alert as they look to bolster their attacking ranks in the off-season.
In a recent interview with an Austrian news outlet, Arnautovic said, “I’m 29, so that’s the best age,”
“It’s clear that I want to compete with the best players. But in this affair I totally trust my brother.”
On the other hand, his brother shed some light on some of the interested parties claiming, “There are a lot of Premier League clubs tracking him. Chelsea and Everton, for example, but not only them.”
This recent revelation would be a massive boost for Jose Mourinho as he plans to rebuild his squad by bringing in some talented players who can add more quality to their attack. The Austrian has already proven his value in the Premier League so it won’t take much time for him to settle into life at the Old Trafford.
Arnautovic could be a low-risk acquisition for United but whether the Red Devils can claim a top 4 place at the end of this season remains to be seen. The 29-year-old is a well-rounded forward who initially started off playing as a winger for West Ham. He has excellent ball control and is quite capable of getting others into play.
Moreover, the Austrian international can finish both from inside and outside the opposition box which makes him an invaluable asset for the Hammers. The addition of someone of Arnautovic’s talents will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s attacking options significantly at Old Trafford.
He would be a perfect forward to give Romelu Lukaku a run for his money in the race to secure a regular starting berth in Mourinho’s first-team. Hence, United should do everything they can to lure him to Old Trafford before other big clubs join in on the chase.
