According to a recent report by the Evening Standard, Samir Nasri is currently undergoing a medical at West Ham United ahead of penning a short-term deal with the East London club. The French playmaker is presently serving his 18-month ban from playing competitive football after he violated the World Anti-Doping Code and UEFA’s doping regulations.
With his ban set to end next month, he would be eligible to play for the Hammers on what is believed to be a six-month contract.
Nasri’s Glorious Career In A Nutshell
The 31-year-old is vastly experienced in the Premier League having won the famous trophy twice during his time with Manchester City. Nasri has featured in 215 matches in the English top-flight, scoring 36 goals while providing 34 assists.
He is currently a free agent after being released by Antalyaspor at the start of this calendar year. The former Arsenal sensation also has 41 international caps and five goals to his name while representing the French national side during his career.
What Will The Frenchman Bring To The London Stadium?
The French talent is quite versatile and can play in multiple positions across the frontline behind a centre-forward. He can play on either wing or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s style of play at the London Stadium.
Nasri is an excellent playmaker, and even though he has lost his pace due to age, the French ace is still quite agile and can get the better of his marker in 1v1 situations. Moreover, the 31-year-old is blessed with an eye for a defence-splitting pass in the attacking third and can score his fair share of goals as well.
Is It A Good Move For The Hammers?
He could be a great squad option for Pellegrini to call upon if he manages to recruit Nasri soon. However, the fact that Nasri has hardly played any football in this calendar year would be a cause for significant concern.
If the French playmaker can prove his worth on the pitch, then it could turn out to be a shrewd move for the Hammers. However, the jury is still out on whether Nasri can make a successful comeback to the Premier League.
