Odsonne Edouard came in from Paris Saint Germain, and that turned a lot of heads. The Frenchman initially impressed on his loan spell, and as a result, the Hoops went on to pay a record fee to land him in the summer. However, the sale of Moussa Dembele has again brought another vacancy in the attacking department, and the Hoops can once again look at their French counterparts to land Timothy Weah on loan in January.
The striker as expected has failed to earn a starting place in the star-studded lineup of Paris Saint-Germain. It seems like the 18-year-old has accepted the fact that he isn’t likely to get many starts this season and told recently in an interview that he is looking forward to moving away on loan.
Weah was quoted as saying, ”Right now I’m not playing, but I’m always looking to improve, doing extra stuff and just watching the other guys and learning from them. Just waiting on my turn and hoping I’m going on loan soon.”
The youngster has managed just 53 minutes of football throughout two games in Ligue 1 this season. With heavyweight players like Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Neymar starting up front, Weah isn’t likely to get much of a look in the first team. So moving away on loan should be the right way to go for his career.
The 18-year old is the son of former Ballon d’Or Winner and current President of Liberia George Weah. Weah senior also went on to represent the French heavyweights in his heydays and his son would love to make it big at Paris Saint Germain. However, right now it doesn’t seem like happening and the player would need few impressive loan spells before he can get into contention in Tuchel’s side.
His versatility to play in the wide regions should come in handy as the Bhoys recently lost Daniel Arzani for the season. Scott Sinclair has been well below par so far after Callum McGregor had to shift in a more central role after injuries to the likes of Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham
Weah can play anywhere across the front three due to his searing pace, but he is at his most lethal when starting up front. We believe he can be a perfect short-term replacement for someone like Dembele and who knows maybe the Hoops might be able to pull off a permanent deal in the future as they did in the case of Edouard. Rodgers should chance his arm to land him in January on loan, especially after his recent comments.
