According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Manchester United are plotting a move to secure the services of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a replacement for David De Gea, who won’t renew his current deal at Old Trafford. It is understood that United’s Spanish keeper could leave the Red Devils at the end of this campaign as Jose Mourinho looks to cash in on him next summer.
The same report has also claimed that the Portuguese manager has identified Pickford as an ideal replacement for the Spaniard which would be a big blow for the Toffees as they look to build for the future. The English goalie has made a solid start to this campaign following his heroics for the English national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
His incredible contributions helped Gareth Southgate’s men claim a strong fourth-place finish in the competition which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs.
The former Sunderland sensation has featured in 13 matches for the Blues of Merseyside this season, letting in 15 goals while grabbing four clean sheets along the way across all competitions. He has also secured 15 international caps for the English national side so far.
What Makes Pickford So Good For The Toffees?
The 24-year-old talent is an excellent shot-stopper as he has razor-sharp reflexes and he also has a knack to be in the right position when the opposing forwards are taking shots at his goal. The England international is a brilliant distributor of the ball and possesses the ability to find his teammates with his long balls into the opposition half. However, Pickford needs to improve his ball-handling skills if he wants to make a name for himself at the highest level.
The Future Is Promising For Everton’s Number One Keeper
Everton are currently occupying the 6th spot in the Premier League table after earning a hard-fought 1-0 win against Cardiff City at Goodison Park yesterday. Pickford secured another clean sheet at the back, and it seems like he has established a solid foundation at the back with quality defenders such as Yerry Mina and Michael Keane protecting him in the Everton half.
Why The Merseysiders Cannot Afford To Let Him Leave?
Marco Silva is on the verge of building something special with his current Everton team of which Pickford is an integral part! His potential departure could reduce the quality of the Toffees squad significantly unless they can find a capable replacement, which would be very difficult in today’s inflated market. Hence, Silva should retain his number one shot-stopper at all costs and not be tempted by potential big-money offers from other clubs.
