According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Manchester United are interested in securing the services of Eder Militao from FC Porto. It is understood that the Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to add a new central defender during the January transfer window and Militao fits the bill perfectly.
Since his switch from Sau Paulo last summer, the Brazilian defensive ace has already put in a number of commanding displays at the back for Porto during the course of this campaign which has caught the attention of the Man United chiefs.
The Rapid Rise Of Eder Militao
The 20-year-old has made 13 appearances for the Portuguese heavyweights this season and has one assist to his name so far in all competitions. He graduated from the Sao Paulo academy and slowly made his way up the youth ranks to become one of the best young talents in Europe. At such a young age, Militao has already earned one international cap for the Brazilian national side.
However, the Brazilian needs to move to a bigger club if he wants to test himself against the best players in European football truly so a move to Man United might be an attractive proposition for him.
What Will The Brazilian Add To Mourinho’s Side?
The Porto centre-back is a powerhouse in defence due to his impressive athleticism and excellent aerial prowess. He also has a lot of pace under his belt which helps him cover a lot of ground when under threat from the opposing forwards. However, the Brazilian sensation needs to work on his distribution if he wants to prove his worth in the Premier League.
The addition of Militao will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options at Old Trafford. The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo have all failed to perform on a consistent basis this season so the Brazilian centre-half might be a significant upgrade over any of them if he can bring his current form to Manchester.
However, the jury is still out on whether he can adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of English football.
