According to a recent report by the Sun, Eliaquim Mangala could leave Manchester City to join Inter Milan on a free transfer next summer. It is believed that the Serie A giants are interested in securing the services of the Man City outcast on loan with a view of a permanent transfer when his contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of this campaign.
Mangala’s Frustrating Year And Injury Concerns
The French defender has not experienced any first-team football since sustaining a severe knee injury while on loan at Everton back in February. However, he is slowly making his way back to full fitness and could be ready for some competitive action in the coming weeks.
Mangala had to endure a frustrating year as he has hardly played any football in the recent past. So there are still doubts over whether the Frenchman can be back at his best if he gets a chance to feature in Guardiola’s starting XI this season.
He has made just two appearances in the Premier League 2 this term. However, at 27, Mangala still has enough time to make a successful comeback and could be an ideal asset for Inter if given a chance to showcase his talents in Italy.
What Does The Frenchman Add To Guardiola’s Team?
The Standard Liege youth product is a powerhouse in defence and is a very reliable defender at the back. Despite his recent injury concerns, the Frenchman offers a lot on the pitch and knows how to be a winner which makes him the right fit for Inter.
The departure of Mangala won’t affect Guardiola’s squad too much as it is already brimming with defensive talents. Both Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have struck up an excellent partnership in the City backline while high-profile players such as Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany awaits their chance on the Man City bench.
Should The Citizens Let Him Leave?
Hence, Mangala should switch clubs as soon as possible if he wants to reignite his football career in Europe. Guardiola can also benefit from getting him off the wage bill, so it only makes sense for the Citizens to part ways with their prized asset as soon as possible.
