Latest reports from the Sun confirms that Liverpool are ready to send Dominic Solanke on loan in the January transfer window. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to many as the English forward has failed even to make it to the bench this season. Last season, Jurgen Klopp often used him as the backup option to Roberto Firmino when both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi were away on their loan spells. But ever since they have joined back at the Merseyside, Solanke has gone down the pecking order.
This piece of news should bode well for a club like Rangers as now they can try their luck to sign him up in January. Reports earlier confirmed that Steven Gerrard had attempted to lure the English striker to Ibrox even in the summer, but Klopp kept hold of him.
One can understand why the Liverpool manager wasn’t too keen to send him on loan in the summer, given Daniel Sturridge’s injury history. However, the former Manchester City forward has regained his fitness and is actively used by Klopp as the backup option.
Rangers though might have to ward off some interest from top-flight English clubs as well as it is being reported that the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham United are keen on getting Solanke. Given the quality of the Premier League, it is likely that Liverpool would prefer to send Solanke to an English top flight club. However, Rangers hold an ace in the form of Steven Gerrard, and he definitely can convince Liverpool’s hierarchy to send him further north to Glasgow.
Solanke’s record with England at the youth level has been exemplary, and he was the top scorer when the Three Lions won the u-20 Fifa World Cup. Because of that, he was even fast-tracked to the English senior team, and the forward already has a senior appearance to his name. However, the striker needs to regularly play at the club level to take his game to the next level, and the Reds are thinking in the right direction by deciding to send him on loan.
Rangers have blown hot and cold throughout this season. They are too heavily dependent on Alfredo Morelos to produce the goods in the final third, and someone like Solanke can be a reliable option to have for Gerrard. The signing of Umar Sadiq has failed big time, and we think the signing of a striker in January could be on the cards.
Solanke can take the Scottish Premiership by storm, but Rangers need to move in quick if they want to secure his services as clubs from the Premier League also seem keen on this 21-year-old striker.
