According to a recent report by the Sunday Express, Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Middlesbrough centre-half Dael Fry. It is understood that the Reds are keeping a watchful eye on the Championship starlet’s development at the Riverside Stadium and the same report has also stated that the Merseyside club have watched the Boro play football on six separate occasions in recent times with their sights firmly fixed on Fry’s heroic performances at the back.
The Rapid Rise Of Dael Fry
The 21-year-old was born in Middlesbrough and grew up playing football for his local club. He worked his way up the North Yorkshire club’s youth set-up before playing for both their Under-18 and Under-21 teams. Fry graduated from the Boro academy and had a brief six-month loan spell at Rotherham back in 2016.
Upon his return to the Riverside, the English defensive ace finally managed to break into the Middlesbrough first-team. Fry has gone on to make 39 appearances for the Boro across all competitions and has two assists to his name so far. He has also represented his nation at various youth levels from Under-17 to Under-21 and could be on the verge of earning his first senior international cap for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions team as long as he can continue his excellent form in the coming months.
Fry has already put in some commanding performances at the back for Tony Pulis’ side while playing alongside Ben Gibson. His outstanding contributions on the pitch has helped the Boro climb to the 2nd place of the Championship standings. Pulis needs to hold on to him for the remainder of this campaign as he could be essential in their hopes of securing promotion back to the Premier League.
What Will The English Prospect Bring To Merseyside?
At such a young age, Fry has managed to defend valiantly for his team during this season and has not been afraid to put his body on the line so that he can stop the opposing forwards from scoring. He is a great tackler and knows how to make interceptions in critical moments of a game which makes him an invaluable asset for Pulis.
However, the English wonderkid is still quite a raw talent and needs to be developed in a nurturing environment so that he can become a world-class player in his position over the next few years. Liverpool would do well to prise him away from the Riverside and Klopp might be the ideal manager to get the best out of his talents.
Should The Reds Move In For Him?
Hence, it makes sense for the Reds to go into the transfer market with the hope that they can lure him to Merseyside as he has the potential to line up alongside Joe Gomez at both the club and international level for years to come.
