Latest reports from the Hull Daily Mail conveys that Leeds United are keen on a short-term loan for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Jonathan Bond. Marcelo Bielsa is currently without a proper senior goalkeeper in the squad as both Jamal Blackman, and Bailey Peacock Farrell are out due to injury.
Bond was signed this season by the Baggies on a free transfer when his contract with Reading had expired. A short-term move to Elland Road should excite the 25-year-old as he is yet to make an appearance this season. The goalkeeper could be drafted into the squad even though the transfer window is not open via an emergency loan. This way the Whites can bring him in without having to wait until January.
William Huffer made his debut in goal for United in the weekend’s clash against Bristol City and the Englishman looked assured for the most parts. However, Bristol City didn’t test him much and he will surely have much sterner tests up ahead. Kamil Miazek was the one who found himself on the bench for the tie, and the manager would have been glad that his new goalkeeper had a trouble-free first outing.
The Baggies goalkeeper has so far featured in the matchday squad in the Carabao Cup and is currently the third choice goalkeeper at the Hawthorns. The 25-year-old has had loan spells at Brackley Town, Forest Green, Dagenham and Redbridge, Bury, Gillingham and Peterborough and would be looking to impress if he gets his big break with United who are in an excellent position to fight for the direct promotions spots.
His stint with Peterborough last season was impressive, and we feel he can fill in the void at Elland Road on a short-term basis. However, the club faithful would like to see much better and proven quality coming in if they go for a goalkeeper. The club is already linked (The Sun) with England international Tom Heaton though that signing could only take place in January.Â
The Whites have been struggling with their goalkeeping option for quite some time now. Bailey Peacock Farrell has also been unimpressive of late, and Bielsa did go on to confirm that he would have started with Jamal Blackman after the international break. Peacock Farrell was promoted to the first team last season when Felix Weidwald made some poor displays in goal which cost the team dearly.
It remains to be seen whether the Whites would go through with this move for Jonathan Bond. Signing him would disappoint the likes of William Huffer and Kamil Miazek who must be excited to see some first-team action during this injury crisis. However, considering everything we feel Bielsa cannot risk not going in for goalie and Bond would be a very decent short term fix.
