Manchester City will travel to the Groupama Stadium to take on Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow night at the back of an emphatic 4-0 triumph over West Ham United last weekend. The Citizens will go into this clash full of confidence about claiming a positive result in France but might face off against a strong Lyon side who are hard to beat on their home turf.
Pep Guardiola might opt to start with a 4-3-3 formation and would be expected to make a few changes for this crucial European encounter in midweek.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Lyon
Defence
Guardiola will start Ederson in goal for this Champions League match in France while Arijanet Muric has to play back-up to the Brazilian on the City bench.
The Citizens could line up with Aymeric Laporte and John Stones in central defence as the pair seems to be Guardiola’s preferred choice at the moment due to their exceptional ball-playing capabilities. Benjamin Mendy will not feature for Man City again this year due to a knee problem, so Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to take his place at left-back as he looks to impress by making some runs behind the Lyon backline. Kyle Walker will also look to put on a tireless shift down the right.
The Man City defenders have been in exceptional form of late after conceding just two goals in their past nine outings across all competitions. However, it won’t be a comfortable night out for them as Lyon had already proven that they can score against City when they won 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year.
Midfield
The trio of Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and David Silva started for the Blues of Manchester last weekend. They could all retain their places for this midweek trip to Lyon as both Bernardo Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne are currently out with injuries.
Fernandinho will be the midfield anchorman while Gundogan and Silva would look to create some opportunities in the opposition half.
Attack
The Citizens front three would consist of Gabriel Jesus leading the lines up top with Raheem Sterling operating on the left flank. Riyad Mahrez might start on the right as he looks to cut in on his stronger left foot to create problems for the Lyon defenders.
Leroy Sane had been in a rich vein of form for both his club and country in recent weeks, but he could find himself on the City bench for this Champions League contest at the Groupama Stadium. Sergio Aguero will also be rested in midweek so that he can be fresh against Bournemouth in the following weekend.
