Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones is in the news recently as he is drawing interest from Championship clubs like Swansea City and Aston Villa according to The Daily Mail. Jones has entered the last year of his contract at Rugby Park, and it is possible that he could look for a move away. The Northern Irish winger drew interest from Rangers, and the Gers even had a bid turned down in January. Since then he has continued to show improvements to his game, and it is no surprise that he is garnering interest from down south.
The player even went on to admit earlier that not moving to Rangers affected him a bit after the bid was rejected. The 24-year-old was quoted as saying to the Scottish Sun,”Yes, it does affect you. It is mental torture(transfer rumours), really. You are getting told a lot of things and trying to concentrate on football but it is draining. Through those two transfer windows were two of the worst times in my life. But you just have to get back to your football as quickly as possible and let that side of the game take care of itself.”
Jones is predominantly a left winger but can even play in a more central role in midfield. The Gers do have someone like Ryan Kent who is a regular down the left wing but the winger is currently on loan and there is no guarantee that the Gers would be able to land him in the future. However, Gerrard has indicated that he would definitely like to sign Kent.
The Northern Irish winger graduated from Middlesbrough’s academy but failed to make the cut there. The winger has been with Kilmarnock since 2016 and in the two years at the club, Jones has slowly become one of the most important attacking players for Steve Clarke.
The 24-year-old has made 100 appearances for Kilmarnock in the past two season and has contributed with seven goals and 21 assists and because of his influential displays for the club, Jones has also gone on to play for his national side Northern Ireland.
With English clubs like Swansea City and Aston Villa entering the frame, the two Championship clubs are definitely aspiring for promotion to the Premier League in the future. Therefore the player might feel that in a few years he could be playing in the English top flight. It remains to be seen whether the Gers would look to add reinforcements in the wingers’ department.
By next year they should have Jamie Murphy back from the injury as well so Jones doesn’t look like an immediate necessity but if he is available on a cut-price deal in January, the Gers can definitely consider moving for him again in the winter transfer window.
