Everton are looking to make a mark in the Premier League this season after their disappointing campaign in the last term. Marco Silva has brought in new confidence into the side, and the Toffees are performing decently so far this season, with the hard-fought draw against Chelsea in their last match at Stamford Bridge being ample evidence of that.
The Merseyside club has already brought in the likes of Richarlison and Bernard in the summer, with both performing well so far this season. Both the Brazilians have added an extra edge to the attack for Marco Silva’s side and have co-ordinated brilliantly with Gylfi Sigurdsson. However, the Portuguese mastermind is reportedly still looking to add to the firepower and is ready to bid for another forward this summer.
As per the Portuguese outlet O’Jogo, Silva is interested in making a move for Yacine Brahimi, who is currently plying his trade at FC Porto. The Algerian international has been a mainstay in the attack for the Portuguese giants and has made a significant contribution in his tenure at the club. Brahimi has been a part of the Porto attack since the 2014/15 season and has made 182 appearances for the club, scoring 44 goals in the process. He has also proved himself to be a perfect team player and has assisted his teammates on 36 occasions.
According to the report, the Algerian winger’s contract is set to end with Porto this January, and this has piqued the interest of a number of clubs in acquiring the Paris-born forward’s service in the next transfer period. Among the English clubs, Newcastle United and West Ham United are ready to vie with Everton to secure his services once he becomes a free agent.
Brahimi is known for his ability to take on the defenders with his sublime footwork and scoring goals from a variety of ranges. Acquiring such a player, that too for free is a lure too much to resist for any top division club, and the Toffees are looking to edge out the Magpies and the Hammers in this race to sign Brahimi in January.
However, Silva must also consider the fact that the 28-year-old attacker has never played in the Premier League before and it might be a challenge for him to adjust to the fast-paced style of English football.
Now it is to be seen whether the former Granada winger makes his way to the Goodison Park in January or whether Marco Silva decides against bringing him to the club. Our own opinion is that this is too good a deal to pass up on and Silva should get it done if this is a realistic possibility.
