According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Everton manager Marco Silva has expressed his desire to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent transfer from Barcelona next summer. The Portuguese midfielder is currently playing on a season-long loan deal at Goodison Park after failing to prove his worth at the Nou Camp.
Gomes has already featured in 5 matches for the Blues of Merseyside but his most recent performance in their 1-0 win over Cardiff City last weekend won a lot of praise amongst pundits and fans alike. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Silva made his intentions known to the public and said, “I think in the right moment we have to do something to achieve one player like Andre,”
“We have time to do that. We are happy with him, he is enjoying the moment here and I don’t think it is a good moment to talk every week because it’s better they (Barcelona) forget a little bit about Andre!
“You go there in the right moment. Andre is enjoying his time but we don’t want to put this pressure of a decision on him. It is early.
“When you make a loan, and not just Andre but Zouma as well, if you can do something tomorrow then you have to do it but football is not like that.
“At the end of the season we will talk to the players and with the clubs and after then we will take the decision or not.”
Silva’s words clearly indicate that the Toffees are looking to build for the future and would be open to the possibility of signing Andre Gomes and/or Kurt Zouma on a permanent transfer as they look to add a lot of quality to the current Everton set-up at Goodison Park.
The Portuguese talent can distribute the ball well in midfield and is not afraid to make some unselfish runs off the ball to make space for his teammates. Gomes is a perfect modern-day midfielder who adds a lot of quality and dynamism to the Everton midfield.
His addition on a permanent deal will undoubtedly bolster Silva’s midfield options in the coming years as the Toffees look to break into the Premier League’s ‘Top 6’ and secure European football. A lot can happen between now and the end of the season but the early signs are promising for Gomes. If the former Valencia prospect can continue his good form for the Merseyside outfit over a prolonged period, then it is a no-brainer for Silva to go all out to retain his services next summer.
