Leeds United kept it late to rescue a point against Nottingham Forest, and they would again face a stern test in the form of Wigan Athletic at DW Stadium. The Whites might have stuttered in the last month, but they are still well placed to fight for the direct promotion spot.
The Latics have blown hot and cold this season, and one isn’t often sure which side would turn up on a given day. However, if they are on song, Bielsa and his men will have to be wary of their threat as they have some game-changing players at their disposal.
Team News: Barry Douglas is likely to be back after he had played for the Whites u-23 recently. Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling are going to be out for quite a while with an injury. Young forward Ryan Edmondson is also out of contention due to an injury setback.
Leeds United predicted lineup vs Wigan Atheltic
Formation (4-1-4-1)
Defence
Bailey Peacock Farrell is a sure shot starter in between the sticks. Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper will continue as a centre back pairing for Bielsa. The Whites have been undone by set pieces of late which is surprising to see as both the centre-backs are considered to be aerially dominant. Down the left, Barry Douglas would be a welcome addition to the lineup after he had missed a month of action.
Right back is a spot which is going to cause worry for Bielsa in the next month or so and we believe Jamie Shackleton should be the one to fill in the role as he has impressed in this position against Swansea City. However, Stuart Dallas shouldn’t be too far from starting.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips will reprise his usual role in the defensive midfield. Mateusz Klich has been one of the most consistent performers of late, and the Polish would again be expected to put in a significant shift in central midfield. Adam Forshaw recently came in place of Samuel Saiz, and the midfielder did a decent job and therefore would be expected to keep his position in midfield.
Out on the right, Pablo Hernandez should start, and he has been the most effective player in the attacking third ever since his comeback from injury. Jack Clarke has impressed in his cameos down the left and many might feel that the youngster should be given the go-ahead but Bielsa is likely to prefer Ezgjan Alioski. However, if he doesn’t pick his game up, Alioski could soon join Saiz on the bench.
Forward
Kemar Roofe rescued a late point against the Tricky Trees, and he would once again lead the line for his side.
