Manchester City seems to have the number of every opponent they face, be it in the Premier League or any domestic Cup competition. It was Brahim Diaz this time who struck twice in either half of the match to seal a 2-0 victory for the reigning EFL Cup champions in their round of 16 game against Fulham. This victory now takes them into the quarterfinal round of the competition.
The hosts kept pressing long and hard since kick-off, and it was in the 18th minute that the deflected shot from Diaz found the back of the net. The young midfielder added to his tally in the 65th minute again after the ball fell to him after hitting the bar from a well taken shot by Gabriel Jesus.
Here is how the Manchester City players were rated from their win against Fulham.
Ederson: 6
Had a quiet game with all the action happening on the other end of the pitch.
Danilo: 6
Decent outing for the Brazilian. Defended well and with a lot of heart.
John Stones: 7
Kept his side out of harm’s way.
Vincent Kompany: 6.5
His physicality was too much for the Fulham players to take.
Oleksandr Zinchenko: 6
Good shift from the make-shift left back.
Fabian Delph: 6
Decent performance. Nothing to write home about.
Brahim Diaz: 7
Was not the best player on the pitch but was opportunistic enough in picking up the loose ball on both the occasions and driving it home.
Phil Foden: 6
Decent outing for the youngster. Unlucky to miss out on a goal after heading a superb cross from Kevin De Bruyne inches away from the Fulham goal.
Kevin De Bruyne: 8
A superlative performance from the Belgian as he was omnipresent throughout the match for his side and created some chances that should have been put away.
Leroy Sane: 7
Brilliant footwork as he bamboozled the Fulham defence throughout the match. His finishing, however, let him down.
Gabriel Jesus: 7
Unlucky to not get a goal after the hard work he put in on the night.
Substitutes
Riyad Mahrez: 6
Had a decent outing. Moved the ball around well.
Claudio Gomes: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
