According to the latest reports, Chelsea can once again be interested in signing Napoli’s fullback Elseid Hysaj in the future. The fullback was linked heavily with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but nothing came through at that time. Now his agent has opened up about what happened in the summer and Maurizio Sarri’s ongoing interest in his client.
His agent Mario Giuffredi, talked to Radio CRC and said,”Chelsea in for Hysaj? If you see Napoli are playing Malcuit and looking at other players, clearly it means that there are also enquiries. Those who say otherwise are misinformed. Hysaj is a player who can do well in English football, given he’s very physical and being watched by big clubs. Is he worth €50m? He’s worth €60m for me.” On the potential move that didn’t happen with Chelsea in summer, his agent said,”Without that clause, he probably would have gone to Chelsea this summer.”
Hysaj has struggled to get going this season but when on a song, he can be an absolute handful as a right back. Plus his versatility to fill in as a left back should also be a big asset for Sarri.
However, it remains to be seen whether Hysaj would start over regular club captain Azpilicueta in the right-back role. Maybe the Spaniard can be pushed as a centre back after this season as David Luiz is in the last year of his contract and the Albanian can come in to fill the right-back role.
His agent has made it clear that the 24-year-old isn’t going to come in cheap so maybe the Blues should wait until the next summer in making a move for him.
Currently, they are in need of a striker, therefore, spending €50-60 odd millions on a right back when the club has the likes of Azpilicueta and Davide Zappacosta doesn’t make sense. However, it is clear that Sarri is a fan of him and Hysaj has enjoyed the best spell of his career under the current Chelsea manager.
Hysaj is an absolute powerhouse and is strong and robust in his challenges. His defensive qualities are his biggest strength so probably he would have to work on the offensive side of his game. However, with Marcos Alonso usually pushing forward, we often see the right back not being that offensive, so it makes sense for Sarri to go in for a slightly more defensively sold fullback.
The player has his contract until 2021, so it’s clear that he isn’t going to come in cheap. However, with Sarri at the helm, the Blues can pull off this signing in the future, but we believe until and unless there is a departure of a right back from the club, Hysaj is more of a luxury signing.
