According to recent reports, Arsenal have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. It is understood that the Spaniard wants to leave the Nou Camp in favour of a move to North London after being fed up with the lack of first-team opportunities under Ernesto Valverde this season.
The 24-year-old has seen just 90 minutes of first-team football come his way during this campaign which has left him frustrated. It has also been reported that Suarez has lost all faith on Valverde after being overlooked during Barca’s 4-3 loss at the hands of Real Betis earlier this month.
The Spanish prospect needs to move on to greener pastures during the January transfer window if he intends to reignite his career away from Catalunya. Unai Emery could provide him with an escape route out of Barcelona by bringing him to North London in the near future.
The addition of Suarez would undoubtedly improve the Spanish manager’s midfield options at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners currently have an array of talented midfielders in their team such as Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe who are all competing for a starting berth in Emery’s first-team. Hence, bringing Suarez into the mix could add even more competition for places within the Arsenal squad.
What Will The Spaniard Bring To The Emirates Stadium?
Suarez is quite quick and agile in midfield which helps him dribble with the ball out of tight areas. The Spaniard also has an eye for a defence-splitting pass from midfield to set up his teammates in the attacking third. However, his shooting from long range needs to improve while Suarez also needs to hit the gym so that he can add more muscle to his upper body which would help him cope with life in the Premier League.
Should The Gunners Move In For Him?
The Gunners are in need of some injection of quality in midfield as both Guendouzi and Xhaka have not been consistent with their performances this season. Suarez would be a significant upgrade over the duo and could be unleashed alongside Torreira at the middle of the park. The Spanish sensation will also fit Emery’s style of play at North London as he is used to playing an open, expansive game of football. Hence, it makes sense for the North London giants to move in for him in January.
