According to a recent report by Sport Bild, as cited by the Sun, Arsenal are hoping to secure the signature of Nadiem Amiri from 1899 TSG Hoffenheim next summer. It is understood that the Gunners are leading the chase along with Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Bundesliga youngster’s services.
The German prospect is currently sidelined due to a foot injury, but that hasn’t stopped clubs from monitoring his situation at Hoffenheim. The same report has also claimed that the 22-year-old could be available for a fee in the region of £15m due to a clause in his contract.
The Rise Of Nadiem Amiri
Amiri was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein in Germany and grew up playing football back in his homeland for FC Kaiserslautern Jugend before making a switch to SV Waldhof Mannheim Jugend. However, he failed to impress during his youth career but was given another opportunity by Hoffenheim in the summer of 2012. Since his move to the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, the German starlet featured for the club’s Under-17 and Under-19 teams before breaking into their senior set-up back in 2014.
At the tender age of 22, Amiri has already made 93 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring eight goals while creating 11 assists. He has also represented Germany at every youth level from Under-18 onwards and is currently an integral member of the German Under-21 team.
What Will He Bring To The Emirates Stadium?
Amiri is a very capable dribbler with the ball at his feet and is not afraid to take on the opposition defenders. He is always looking to create and take shots at goal which makes him a joy to watch. His link-up play and passing range is also quite admirable at the centre of the park.
However, the jury is still out on whether the German wonderkid can cope up with the physical demands of English football. Moreover, he also lacks pace which sometimes lets him down in the final third.
The Right Choice For The Gunners?
The addition of Amiri will undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium. He is a gem of a talent who can be nurtured into a world-class playmaker if Emery can provide him with a nurturing environment at North London. Arsenal lacks an out and out winger with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Danny Welbeck and Ainsley Maitland-Niles often being deployed on the left flank. So the potential acquisition of Amiri will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Gunners squad.
His versatility to play in multiple positions coupled with the fact that he has incredible potential makes him an ideal option for Emery to consider at Arsenal.
