Danny Welbeck’s injury from the Europa League encounter looks serious, and it is clear that the player is out for the rest of the season. Some reports say that the player could even find it hard to make it back to the football pitch again after the severity of the injury.
As a result of this, Unai Emery is reportedly going to go after a striker in January, and it is believed that he can use Aaron Ramsey in a swap deal to land his target. Reports suggest that Arsenal can go after AS Roma forward Patrik Schick. However, there is a possibility that he could be signed on just a loan deal for six months as a short-term cover for the injured Welbeck.
The forward has managed five appearances in the Serie A this season and is yet to find the back of the net. Roma signed him permanently this season after Schick had spent the 2017-18 campaign with them on loan. However, the Czech Republic striker has struggled with his form and fitness, and as a result, the Italian heavyweights are looking to send him away in January.
It is expected that Ramsey would be involved only if the Gunners are looking to sign Schick on a permanent basis. Given that now it is certain that the Welshman is not going to sign a new contract at the Emirates, it won’t be a bad idea to land a talented striker like Schick for him instead of letting the Welsh midfielder leave for free next summer.
The London outfit used similar tactics in January this year when they allowed Alexis Sanchez to join Manchester United after he had entered in the final year of his contract and the Gunners got Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return who has done a decent job so far this season.
When Roma signed Schick last season on loan, he was considered to be one of the big upcoming talents, and one can say injuries have resulted in his loss of form of late. The 22-year-old seems to have everything to his game that a striker needs as he has decent goal scoring instincts along with a physical presence in the box. At the Emirates, Schick is going to be used as a backup option as Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang are going to be ahead in the pecking order.
That could make the striker a bit sceptical about joining the Gunners as there is interest from certain La Liga sides where he can be in a much better position to play regular football. As of now, this move doesn’t seem like happening on a permanent basis and Roma are also likely to keep hold of him having just signed him permanently in the summer. However, a loan move to Arsenal could definitely be on the cards especially after Emery lost Welbeck for the season.
