Arsenal are currently playing some of their best football under Unai Emery and are still unbeaten across all competitions since being beaten by Chelsea back in August. However, they have recently suffered a blow after Danny Welbeck sustained a severe ankle injury which ruled him out of action for the immediate future after he underwent an ankle surgery recently.
With the Gunners currently a bit short in the striking department, Emery needs to bring in some added firepower up top to ease the goal-scoring burden for the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, who have both impressed in spells during this season.
Here are three replacements for Welbeck that Emery should look to recruit when the transfer window opens in January.
Nicolas Pepe
The LOSC Lille forward has already put in many match-winning displays for his team this season after scoring eight times in 13 matches. At 23, he is about to embark upon his peak years so the Gunners would do well to prise him away from the Ligue 1. He will be an ideal replacement for Welbeck and would offer something different going forward.
Hirving Lozano
The Mexican international has already impressed a lot of people with his eye-catching displays for PSV Eindhoven this season. He was also a star for his nation when he represented Mexico in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and his incredible contributions helped the country claim a strong Round of 16 finish in the competition.
The PSV striker has also been quite prolific at the club level after scoring 11 goals while creating five assists in 20 matches for the Eredivisie giants in all competitions. There is no doubt that Lozano would be a fabulous addition to the Arsenal attack if Unai Emery can manage to sign him in the near future.
Krzysztof Piatek
The Polish striker is in the form of his life and has already scored a hatful of goals for Genoa this season. Piatek has found the back of the net 13 times in 13 appearances for the Serie A outfit across all competitions which includes his four strikes in the Coppa Italia against Lecce. He could be the ideal man to lead the lines for the Gunners if given an opportunity to test himself against the best teams in the Premier League.
