Tottenham Hotspur may have made their best league start in the club’s history, but they have been far from convincing, to say the least, in recent weeks. Spurs have been guilty of being inconsistent, and they are yet to make their mark in this season’s UEFA Champions League. However, the English giants are still in with an outside chance to challenge for the Premier League title and currently find themselves in the 5th spot, just five points off the league leaders, Manchester City.
Mauricio Pochettino has been left frustrated with the lack of investment and is in dire need to bring in some fresh faces during the winter transfer window so that the North London outfit can challenge for some silverware during this campaign. With Mousa Dembele edging closer to the twilight years of his career, Spurs need a worthy replacement for the talented Belgian if they want to compete with the bigger teams of England.
Here are three midfielders Pochettino should look to recruit when the transfer window reopens in January.
Koke
The Atletico Madrid midfield enforcer has enjoyed a fabulous start to this campaign and has already lit up the Spanish capital with some solid displays under Diego Simeone so far. At 26, the Spanish sensation is currently playing at his peak and will be a fantastic fit for Spurs. He has made 14 appearances for Atletico this season, scoring three goals while grabbing one assist in all competitions.
Marcelo Brozovic
The 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist has already put in some impressive performances for Inter Milan this season and has looked a class act in Luciano Spalletti’s midfield. He could be an ideal replacement for Dembele and will add some much-needed quality to the Tottenham midfield if Pochettino can lure him to North London in the near future.
Piotr Zielinski
The Polish international has enjoyed a rich vein of form for Napoli this season and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A. He is quite pacey and has outstanding ball control which makes him a dominant figure at the centre of the pitch. Zielinski has developed a habit of scoring and creating important goals from midfield which makes him a worthy option for Spurs to consider in January.
