According to a recent report by the Metro, Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen has revealed that he is not happy with how things are panning out for him under Maurizio Sarri but admits that he won’t hand in a transfer request to force a move through when the transfer window reopens in January.
The 22-year-old talent was a regular starter when Antonio Conte was in charge of the Pensioners last season, but the Dane has still not made a single start in the Premier League this term with Sarri often opting to go with David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger to line up in central defence.
In a recent interview, Christensen shed some light on his current situation at Stamford Bridge and said, ‘There’s a difference from last season,’
‘I played a lot of games but this season hasn’t been like that. It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens.
When asked about the possibility of a transfer request from him in January, the Chelsea defender added, ‘It’s a difficult question.
‘If you asked every player that’s not playing if they’re happy they’ll say “no”. Everyone wants to play but you know I can’t do anything but train and do my best when I get the opportunity.
‘I have to perform well to show him [Sarri] that he can count on me. You don’t want to sit around and wait for it you want to play straight away – that’s why we play football.
‘Not playing is not fun but it’s a different situation to last season. I don’t think so [leaving in January].’
It is clear from the Danish centre-back’s words that he is currently frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities under Sarri this season. However, Christensen still believes that he can turn things around at West London which would ease Sarri’s worries for now.
The Danish Centre-back’s Successful Time With Chelsea
Despite being relatively young and inexperienced, the Danish international is a competent defender who knows how to win at the highest level. He has already had the honour of winning the Premier League title and the FA Cup with the Blues of London and has the potential to become a world-class talent in the coming years.
Does Christensen Have A Future Under Sarri?
The Dane is ready to stay and fight for a place in Sarri’s starting XI; however, if things don’t improve for the centre-half soon, then we could see him part ways with the Pensioners next summer. For now, Christensen looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the campaign and so the Chelsea head coach will have enough time to assess the defender before deciding on his long-term future at West London.
Sarri could also choose to sell him in January and use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of his squad which could help his side challenge both Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title. Just throwing it out there as food for thought!
