Rangers will have another good chance to put their woeful away record to bed as they travel to Superseal stadium to take on Hamilton after the international break. The Gers haven’t won an away tie since February this year, and if Gerrard wants his club to be taken as serious title contenders, then he needs to get his team to start winning these away games.
Hamilton are currently ninth on the table, and the Gers should have enough firepower to see out their opponents. However, one cannot take anything for granted, and Hamilton would be no pushovers.
Team news
Gareth McAuley seems close to returning. Jamie Murphy continues to be a long-term absentee. Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic both were ruled out on their international duties. So the Croatian duo will be a big miss for Gerrard. Former captain Lee Wallace is also out due to an injury.
Rangers Predicted Lineup vs Hamilton
Formation (4-1-4-1)
Defence
Allan McGregor has been a revelation in goal, and the veteran Scottish goalkeeper would again be the no.1 choice in between the sticks. With Katic still out, we expect Connor Goldson and Joe Worrall to continue their centre-back partnership. McAuley does make a case for himself, but the Gers cannot afford to experiment much as they desperately need the 3 points to remain in the title race.
With Barisic absent, Jon Flanagan will continue to fill in his shoes in the left back position. Captain Tavernier will start from the right to complete a solid back four.
Midfield
Lassana Coulibaly will play in his holding midfielder role, and the Angers loanee has been impressive for the Bears. Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria will start in a slightly advanced position in midfield, and their job would be to keep things moving and creating opportunities for the forwards.
Down the left, Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent has done exceedingly well, and he has slowly grown into his role. Daniel Candeias has picked up his game off late, and he would be starting from the right. We might see Eros Grezda coming off the bench later as he seems fit enough to play a little role at least.
Attack
Gerrard tried to get Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos playing together with the former usually deployed in wide areas. However, that didn’t work, and it seems like Gerrard has settled into Morelos as the first choice strike option with Lafferty as a backup. We expect the Colombian to lead the line once again given the form he showed before the international break.
