Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Manchester City at the Wembley Stadium this weekend hoping to bounce back from their disappointing draw versus PSV Eindhoven in midweek. Spurs’ hopes of securing qualification from the group stages of the UEFA Champions League have been left in tatters after they could only muster up a point from their three European matches so far.
This Sunday’s top of the table clash would serve as the perfect opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to kickstart their season in the hopes of winning some silverware at the end of it. Pochettino is expected to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and might name Harry Winks in his first-team.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Hugo Lloris is expected to start in goal for Spurs versus Manchester City on Sunday even though he was sent off against PSV Eindhoven for an error of judgement which ultimately cost the North Londoners two points on the night. The centre-back pair of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez is set to resume their partnership at the heart of Pochettino’s backline in the absence of Jan Vertonghen who has been ruled out of this encounter due to an injury.
Kieran Trippier will look to cause problems down the right side of the Tottenham defence while Ben Davies would hope to put in a tireless shift while operating as the left-back. Danny Rose is still out with an injury which should keep Davies in the Spurs team for the time being.
Pochettino’s defenders have been in a rich vein of form in the Premier League after managing to keep back to back two clean sheets versus Cardiff City and West Ham United respectively which should give them some confidence going into this match against the champions of England.
Midfield
The Tottenham midfield might be comprised of Eric Dier and Harry Winks who have both caught the eye with some solid displays in recent weeks. Mousa Dembele might start on the bench following his heavy involvement against PSV on Wednesday night.
The talented trio of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen, and Lucas Moura could be deployed in the opposition half as they look to cause problems for the Man City backline.
Erik Lamela has arguably been Pochettino’s best weapon off the bench over the past few weeks. The Argentine playmaker should play some part in this game if Spurs require a goal in the second half.
Attack
Harry Kane will spearhead the North London club’s attack once again after scoring with his header in midweek. The English centre-forward has slowly started registering goals on a weekly basis which will be a big positive for Pochettino ahead of this crucial clash on Sunday.
