According to a recent report by the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur will part ways with Mousa Dembele next summer as the midfielder will run down his contract at North London before leaving on a free transfer at the end of this current campaign. It is understood that the Belgian international has no plans to sit down with Spurs to discuss terms of a potential extension.
Dembele’s Career In A Nutshell
Dembele arrived in England to play for Fulham after impressing as a striker for AZ Alkmaar. He scored 33 goals in 148 appearances for the Dutch outfit which impressed the Fulham scouts who took a shot and signed him in the summer of 2010. The Belgian was moulded into a midfielder at Craven Cottage after a string of eye-catching displays for the Londoners at the middle of the pitch.
Spurs were able to snap him up in 2012 following Dembele’s two successful years in English football. Since his move to North London, the Belgian talent has featured in 245 appearances for Tottenham, scoring ten goals while creating 12 assists across all competitions. He has been a regular feature for Spurs over the past few years and has played a significant part in the club’s recent success under Mauricio Pochettino.
What Makes Dembele So Good?
Dembele links up play well in midfield and is an incredible dribbler with the ball. The Belgian has developed a reputation for making successful dribbles from midfield and setting up plays for the forward players. He is also physically strong and has an eye for a telling pass going forward.
Can Tottenham Cope With His Departure?
There is no doubt that Spurs will feel his absence when he leaves the club in search of a fresh challenge. The former Willem II star is an integral part of Pochettino’s system at North London so it won’t be easy for them to replace the Belgian talent next summer.
However, Tottenham knows how to cope with the loss of big-name stars as evidenced by their success after the loss of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric in the recent past. Thus, we can expect them to thrive under Pochettino’s guidance despite potentially losing one of their first-team generals at the end of this season.
