According to recent reports, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase to secure the signature of Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almirón. It is understood that the Major League Soccer talent could be available for a fee in the region of €25m but only time will tell whether Spurs would be willing to pay such a price to land the Paraguayan international.
Miguel Almiron: Player Profile
Almiron made a name for himself while playing for his homeland club of Cerro Porteno. He graduated from the Paraguayan outfit’s academy before being snapped up by the Argentine heavyweights, Lanus in the summer of 2015. During his time at Estadio Ciudad de Lanús – Néstor Díaz Pérez, the Asuncion born prospect made 40 appearances, scoring four goals while creating four assists in all competitions.
Despite his mediocre record, MLS side Atlanta United decided to give him a shot by bringing him to the United States at the start of 2017. Almiron has been a revelation under Gerardo Martino’s stewardship this season, finding the back of the net 12 times while grabbing 13 assists in 33 matches across all competitions. So it is no surprise that some of the biggest sides in England like Spurs and Arsenal are queuing up to land him in the near future.
What Will The Paraguayan Talent Add To Pochettino’s Team?
The 24-year-old is highly versatile and can play in multiple positions across the frontline. The Paraguayan primarily operates in the number 10 position as an attacking midfielder but can also feature on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for Spurs.
Almiron has electrifying pace and is a great dribbler with the ball which helps him get past the opposition defenders in the attacking third. He also has an eye for a telling pass and is also quite adept with his shooting from range. However, his physical attributes are quite weak which could make it difficult for him to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of English football which should be a cause for concern against such a move.
Final Verdict
At 24, the Paraguayan talent has a bright future in the world of football which is why Spurs should recruit him as he would add even more competition for places within the Tottenham midfield.
