Latest reports from the Daily Mail suggests that Rangers are one of the teams who have been monitoring the situation of Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara. The 22 year-old-midfielder moved to Scotland last season after he was unable to breakthrough for English outfit Arsenal.
The defensive midfielder has established himself in Dundee’s first eleven and apart from the Gers, Celtic are also said to be in the mix to sign him. Recently Sunderland have taken a liking to the midfielder as the Black Cats scouts watched the midfielder in action while he was representing Finland.
Having made 15 signings in the summer, one can expect the Gers to take things slow and relaxed in the January window. Midfield is one of the areas where Rangers have plenty of cover. Therefore, one shouldn’t be surprised if Steven Gerrard doesn’t go in too hard for this industrious midfielder.
Kamara joined the Arsenal youth setup in 2012 and managed just one appearance for them before he left the London giants in search of greener pastures. Dundee would be looking to avoid relegation, and their task would be cut out. Reports suggest that the club might look to cash in on their young midfielder as he has entered the final year of his contract. There is also a chance that the Finland international can go on to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.
His versatility and robustness are his prime assets, but one cannot see where he would fit into the current Light Blues’ lineup. Ross McRorie, Ryan Jack, Ovie Ejaria, Andy Halliday, Jordan Rossiter, Lassana Coulibaly, Graham Dorrans and Scott Arfield are the options which the team has in central areas. Ejaria and Coulibaly are just on loan, but Gerrard has already expressed his desire to sign them both permanently. Therefore we expect the club to go after them if they want a midfielder and not Kamara.
Kamara has stood out for Dundee off late, but there isn’t much quality around the midfielder to challenge him for his place. He should look to move on to another club where he would be tested more vigorously and would have more competition for places. A move back to England might excite him as he must be feeling that he has some unfinished business in England after he was shipped away from Arsenal.
The 22-year-old might have been regular for Dundee off late but he is still learning the trade, and we don’t see how he might be an improvement over most of the options Gerrard has at the moment. We expect Rangers to steer clear of this race and losing him won’t be much of a loss for the Gers.
