According to the latest reports, Rangers have agreed a new three year deal with Canadian side Montreal Rangers. The deal will involve coaches from the Ibrox going across the Atlantic to Canada to help Montreal Rangers. Along with that, top talents from Montreal will head to Scotland to get some hands-on experience of playing in and training at a top club. The Gers are looking at this for enhancing their reputation in North America.
Rangers school manager, Gary Gibson recently said about this partnership. He said,”We are delighted that we will be working with Montreal Rangers. Through this partnership, we will assist them to grow over the coming years through camps events in Montreal while we work their players and staff and deliver sessions based on our game model within in our Academy.”
“The next stage will be Montreal Rangers players coming across to experience an elite environment at Rangers. We are making great inroads over in Canada now with partner club such as Calgary Rangers, Lakewood Soccer Club and now Montreal Rangers, and we are eager to increase this further.”
Being a successful football club in today’s day and age is not just about performing on the pitch. Top clubs around the globe collaborate with individual countries’ teams to have their presence in that area. Manchester City owners are currently one of the best examples of this as they have formed partnerships and hold majority ownership with Australian outfit Melbourne City FC and American club New York City FC. Top talents from these clubs are often sent to Manchester City, and Daniel Arzani of Manchester City (who is currently on loan at Celtic) moved from Melbourne City FC.
These teams have similar playing model and structure and as a result, the players coming, even from different part of the world, would adjust well to the new club’s playing style. This way Rangers can increase their pool of young talented players, and they would also have their presence in North America which could eventually bring more money to the owner’s coffers. This deal would allow the Gers coaches to help their Canadian counterpart and maybe if they can find some top players, they can bring them on at the Ibrox youth academy.
Things like this wouldn’t impact the first team at the moment, but in the long run, a move like this is going to pay off on all the fronts. Rangers can get access to some top talents from North America, and along with that, they would be a much global club as Canada is one of the untapped markets in football.
