Beram Kayal, the 30-year-old Israeli midfielder had spent close to six years at Park Head before moving to English club Brighton and Hove Albion in 2015. The midfielder was part of the Israel team which defeated Scotland recently, and he looked back at his time at the Park Head.
Kayal said,”I have been in the UK for nine years now, but I am still one of the Celtic Bhoys. It is an amazing club. I was just a young boy when I first went to Celtic, and the memories of the club, of Glasgow, and of the fans will never leave me.”
The central midfielder made 27 appearances last season and started just eight games. Chris Hughton has often used him as a squad player, and the Israeli international has played in quite a few positions in those games. This season, it’s the same story as he has started just two games in the Premier League and it is clear that he would only get his chances when certain players from the first team would be missing.
Having entered in the final year of his contract, maybe Celtic can have their former player back at Celtic Park. His recent comment shows that he has a lot of respect and love for the club and even at 30, he can be a handy player for the Hoops.
The Glaswegian giants have a decent amount of options in the central midfield position, but there is a good possibility that someone like Olivier Ntcham would leave the club. The Frenchman’s performance of late has been poor, and it seems like he doesn’t want to fight for his place anymore. Scott Brown is also turning 34, and one cannot expect him to play every week regularly. Therefore bringing in someone like Kayal who is playing in the Premier League would be a top addition to Rodgers’ squad.
Kayal is a tenacious midfielder and a perfect man to have in midfield if the gaffer wants to cover the ground. He is physically strong, and his work rate is one of his most significant assets. The former Hoops midfielder also can pick out a pass or two and even though he is 30 now, he still looks good enough to play for Celtic.
Given that he is in the final year of his contract, the Seagulls are unlikely to extend his stay. The Hoops can land him in a cut-price deal in January or can agree on a pre-contract so that he can join for free later in the summer. Last time when he joined the club in 2010, Kayal was still learning the trade and was inexperienced. Now he can be an experienced and important member of the squad in his second spell at Celtic Park.
