Recently, former Everton manager, David Moyes claimed that he would be open to come to his homeland and manage Celtic. Moyes also said that he was wanted by the Hoops in 2016 after Ronny Deila left the club. The former Celtic defender held talks with Peter Lawwell but around that time, Premier League club Sunderland came calling for him, and Moyes decided to take the job down the south.
Brendan Rodgers has made Celtic reach new heights, and he still has three years left to run on his contract. Therefore the board shouldn’t consider giving Rodgers the sack right now. Yes, the club has had a troubled start to this campaign and missing out on Champions League was a big blow but it is clear that Rodgers has definitely improved the football style of the club and he is the one who can carry this team out of the slight slump in form that they are facing right now.
Moyes made his name while working for Everton. He was there at the Merseyside club for more than a decade. When the Scottish manager started, Everton used to fight for relegation, and by the time he ended, the Toffees were finishing consistently in the top half of the table and sometimes around the 7th-8th mark. On the back of such solid work, David Moyes got the biggest break of his career with Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson decided to call it a day as a manager. However, the 55-year-old’s career went downhill from there, and he was shown the door from the club after just ten months.
Since then, the Scotsman has worked for Sunderland, Real Sociedad and West Ham United. His stint with only the Hammers can be classified as some success as he helped the side to avoid relegation last season and secure a respectable 13th place finish in the end.
Rodgers might be struggling to get the best results right now but bringing in Moyes wouldn’t go down well with the fans. Moyes usually sets up a defensive team, and his tactics are often pragmatic and conservative. He might be able to eek out results, but under Rodgers, the Bhoys play a visually appealing and high tempo football.
The Scottish manager has shown that he is not suited to take the mantle of big clubs. Therefore, the board should steer away from making a rash decision of bringing in Moyes for Rodgers even though the club might be struggling a little bit at the moment. The achievement of Rodgers at the club should give him a long rope, and we believe the Northern Irish manager is going to stay at the club for this season at the very least.
