According to a recent report by the Mirror, Everton are lining up a surprise move to secure the services of Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy. It is understood that the English striker’s strained relationship with the West Midlands club’s manager Claude Puel has not improved in recent weeks and so the Toffees are trying to take advantage of the situation by offering the player an escape route out of the King Power Stadium.
However, some sources are claiming that it could take a fee in the region of £25m to persuade the Foxes to part ways with their prized asset which shouldn’t put off the Merseyside giants. Marco Silva’s men have made a mediocre start to this campaign with the club struggling to find consistency on the pitch.
Everton’s Recent Striking Woes
One of the biggest challenges for the Everton manager this season has been to get the best out of his strikers. The likes of Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse have all failed to score goals on a regular basis this season which has seen Richarlison, who is a winger by trade, take up the responsibility of leading the lines up top. There is no doubt that Everton could benefit from bringing in a proven goal-scorer in January as they look to break into the Premier League’s top 6 in the coming years.
What Will Vardy Bring To Goodison Park?
At the age of 31, Vardy still has incredible pace and can give any defender a run for his money in the attacking third. He is a proven goal-scorer in the Premier League while his link-up play in the opposition half is also pretty sharp. With no international distractions to worry about, Vardy could be a good short-term asset for any team looking to bolster their ranks with a capable striker.
Is The English Striker Going To Be An Ideal Fit For The Toffees?
The Toffees should do everything in their power to orchestrate a move for Vardy as he is precisely the type of player the Merseyside outfit are crying out for right now. The potential acquisition of Vardy would bolster Silva’s attacking options significantly while it could also push some of the other forwards at the club to strive for excellence if they want to play at Goodison Park on a weekly basis.
Moreover, the English forward would be an excellent fit for the Everton manager’s brand of football as his pace would open up spaces for the likes of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Theo Walcott to run onto. Hence, a move to Merseyside might be a good move for all parties.
