Tottenham Hotspur will clash heads with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday hoping to gain their first points of this UEFA Champions League campaign. Spurs have lost back to back matches in Europe against Inter Milan and Barcelona respectively. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are currently in grave danger of being knocked out of the competition in the group-stages unless they can earn a positive result versus their Dutch opponents.
It is expected that Spurs will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation for this midweek encounter at the Philips Stadion.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face PSV Eindhoven
Defence
Hugo Lloris is expected to start in goal for Spurs versus PSV Eindhoven in midweek. Michel Vorm is a significant doubt for this European encounter so Paulo Gazzaniga might be named on Pochettino’s bench. The defensive duo of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez is set to resume their partnership at the heart of the Tottenham backline in the absence of Jan Vertonghen who has been ruled out of this clash.
Kieran Trippier will play as the right-back while Ben Davies would hope to put in a good shift down the left flank. Danny Rose is currently out injured which is why Davies needs to step up and grasp this opportunity with both hands. Pochettino’s men have been in fantastic form after managing to keep two clean sheets in a row against Cardiff City and West Ham United respectively.
Having said that, Spurs were poor defensively against Barcelona earlier this month when they shipped in four goals in front of the watchful eyes of the Tottenham faithful at the Wembley Stadium.
Midfield
The midfield pair of Eric Dier and Harry Winks might continue to feature at the centre of the park following another impressive display for the North London outfit last weekend. Mousa Dembele will be available on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half of the contest.
The talented trio of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen, and Lucas Moura could be unleashed in the opposition half as part of the Tottenham attack. Erik Lamela has arguably been Spurs’ best player going forward over the past few weeks. However, he has also been an effective option from the bench. Hence, we can expect the Argentine winger to feature at some point during the match.
Attack
Harry Kane will lead the lines for Pochettino once again after failing to find the back of the net against the Hammers. The English prospect is slowly coming back to his best form so the Tottenham fans would hope that he can register his name on the scoresheet versus PSV on Wednesday evening.
